McClain County Democrats will meet next at 6:30 p.m. April 21 at the Purcell Multi-purpose Center, 1400 Chandler Road. Their guest speaker is Cyndi Munson.
A leading voice in Oklahoma politics, Munson was raised in Lawton by her single father, a Vietnam War veteran. She is the daughter of a South Korean immigrant.
Her family moved frequently in search of affordable housing, and she became the first in her family to graduate college, attending the University of Central Oklahoma with the help of Oklahoma’s Promise.
Before entering public office, she spent more than a decade in the nonprofit sector, including work with the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma and programs supporting children with incarcerated parents.
Elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2015, she became the first Asian American woman in the Legislature and now serves as House Minority Leader, focusing on issues such as tax relief, education funding, and consumer protections.
Munson lives in Oklahoma City and enjoys running, reading, and mentoring young women, as well as spending time with her nephew.
The public is encouraged to attend this free event to hear Munson speak and engage in community discussion.
