Boys win first in 3 of 4 relay events; Alec Shumard first in 400M, Brooks is 1st in girls long jump
A trip to the Ada High School Dorsey Reirdon Relays on April 10 resulted in a first place win for the Racers. Coaches said this is the first time in 15 years that the boys team finished as Champions at a meet.
The Racers had 91 points overall compared to second-place finisher Durant’s 69, and third-place finisher Byng’s 62.
Newcastle came home with several first-place finishes in the various events including 3 out of the 4 boys’ relay events. Jordie Brooks also continued her winning ways with an 18-8 long jump for first place.
Coaches said several school records were broken at the Ada meet, and several Racers are now ranked number one in the state. All eight relay teams are ranked in the top 20 in the state. There are 25 boys and 21 girls ranked in the top 20 in Class 5A.
