Political races develop for SH-20, McClain County Commissioner seats

Patrick, Williams, Couch will continue serving in their county offices

A multitude of candidates will be running for state offices in Oklahoma after the completion of last week’s filing period, which ended Friday.

Locally, State Representative Jonathan Wilk (R-Goldsby) is being challenged by Mike Fullerton (R-Newcastle). The winner of the Republican primary will go on to face Democrat Chris May of Noble.

McClain County filing also wrapped up Friday, and three officials will continue serving in their offices since they were not challenged; however, two races have developed for the two County Commissioner seats that were up for election this year.

Republican Elizabeth Patrick of Lindsay was the sole filer for County Assessor. Republican Michelle Williams of Purcell was the only filer for County Treasurer. And, Rebekah Marie Couch of Purcell was the only filer for County Clerk.

They will all continue to serve a new term.

In the County Commissioner District No. 1 filing, incumbent Republican Glen Murray of Wayne is being challenged by Terry Dwain Hillis, Jr. of Wayne. In the County Commissioner District No. 3, filers were Republicans Joe Southern and Scott Carroll, both of Blanchard.

Newcastle and McClain County voters will be able have their say in the primary election on June 16, and the general election, November 3.
