Girls Scouts earning community service recognition

Members of Newcastle’s Girl Scout Troop 807 were recently recognized for their outstanding community service during 2025.

The eight Cadette Girls Scouts decided to dedicate the year to helping others in and around the Newcastle area as a means of giving back to the community. (Related photo on page 4 of this week’s issue of the Newcastle Pacer.)

Following the completion of their Bronze Award project in which they set up the Clothing Closet at Newcastle Elementary School, the girls realized they had a passion for community service.

Troop member Annastin James stated, “I enjoy serving others because it brings help and kindness to people who need it.”

Throughout the year, the girls volunteered both as a troop and individually with various organizations. Each girl logged more than 50 hours of service with a total of 424 hours, the equivalent of almost $15,000 put back into Newcastle and surrounding areas. For their efforts, each troop member earned her Cadette Community Service Bar.

In February, Troop 807 also hosted World Thinking Day for the Heartland Service Unit. At the event, Girl Scouts from all troops in the area were invited to investigate Girl Scouts or Girl Guides in different countries and share what they learned through presentations, skits, and authentic foods originating from the various cultures.

The event was attended by approximately 80 scouts, parents and leaders. Planning and hosting the event was the final step toward Troop 807 earning their Program Aide Award in which Cadette Girl Scouts lead younger Girl Scouts while developing real- world skills in planning, teaching and mentorship.

Girl Scouts is open to all girls from grades K-12 and helps them explore interests, build real-life skills, and grow in confidence.

The Scouts said in Newcastle and surrounding areas, reach out to Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma if you know a girl who would like to find a troop.
