Easter in the Park Saturday, Eggscape is underway

Easter in the Park Saturday, Eggscape is underway

Newcastle Parks & Recreation and the City of Newcastle are planning a family outing for 2 p.m. March 28 at Veterans Park.

This year’s Easter in the Park will feature the Great EGGSCAPE egg hunt. It begins at 2 p.m., and there will be music, hotdogs and games following the hunt.

To accompany the activities, Newcastle Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with Newcastle Parks and Recreation in The Great Eggscape. Through the use of the Parks and Recreation social media site, facebook.com/ NewcastleOKParks, they said some of the eggs have escaped and they need your help to find them.

To do so, you’ll need to solve a daily riddle provided on their page on Facebook, and then visit the hidden location (a Newcastle business), and say the secret keyword to be the first to claim the egg. They encourage those who succeed to take a photo and post it in the comments on the Facebook page.

After the Easter Egg hunt March 28, go to the Parks and Recreation trailer and turn in your special egg to claim a prize.

Rules include that there is only one egg per location and it’s first come, first served. There is only one egg per child, ages 0-15, and the child must be present to claim the prize.

The Chamber and Parks and Recreation said, “The Great Eggscape is on.”

Age groups for the Easter Egg hunt at Veterans Park will be 3 and under, 4-7 years old, and 8-12 years old. Inside the Newcastle Library from 2-3 p.m. is a hunt for individuals with disabilities.

Parks & Recreation Director Kyle Marks said business booth sign-ups are still underway for the event. Each booth must include a kid-friendly game or activity.

He said this is a great way to advertise your business or organization to those attending the event.

No vendors selling items will be accepted since this is a completely free event for the community, Marks said.
