RACERS Last minute 3-pointer puts Newcastle up for good

Racers fend off Carl Albert, 44-43, in overtime

Fans saw their teams off Saturday morning as the Newcastle High School bus departed for OG&E Coliseum and the State Championship game against Carl Albert later that day. Fans welcomed back the State Champion Newcastle Racers at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Racers beat Tulsa East Central on Thursday, 66-58. They beat Midwest City on Friday night, 53-36. And then the Racers took down the Carl Albert Titans, in an overtime match Saturday night, 44-43.

The Championship game came down to the wire with time running down in overtime and Carl Albert leading by 2 points. The Racers brought the ball downcourt. Tony “TJ” Williams, Jr. then dished back to Kolton Brammer while screening his opponent. Brammer then hits the clutch 3-pointer, and time runs out on the Titans.

Brammer was later named the OSSAA Class 5A State Tournament’s Most Valuable Player and had the most points scored of any player.

Newcastle completed its 2026 season as State Champion, Area Champion, and Regional Champions, with a 26-2 record, having lost only to Del City and Classen School of Advanced Studies.

The 2026 team will see 7 seniors graduate. They are: Brammer, Ivan Antwi-Donkor, Williams, Alan Price, Jon’Tre Sloan, Kael Brickman, and Santorrio Boykins.

Showing their support, the Newcastle students were named OSSAA Student Section of the Year for the entire state. They were recognized during the halftime of the boys semifinal game.

Racer senior Kolton Brammer was named the Class 5A State Tournament Most Valuable Player and had the most points scored for the tourney.
