The next meeting of the McClain County Democrats will be at 6:30 p.m. on March 17 at the Blanchard Public Library, 205 N.E. 10th Street.
They will welcome guest speaker Jasmine Thomas, a candidate for U.S. Senate. Jasmine is 31 years of age, she’s a nurse, mother, and active-duty Army spouse. She was born and raised in Ardmore and graduated from Ardmore High School in 2013. She said she comes from a working-class Oklahoma family. Thomas said she is proudly Black, white, and Chickasaw, and says her multicultural background reflects the diversity of many Oklahoma families.
She and her husband Patrick, who has served in the U.S. Army for nearly 12 years, have been married for more than seven years and share two children: Treycen, 7, who has autism, and Adeya, 5. Thomas says her experiences as a mother in a military family have shaped her views on service, leadership and community.
Thomas began her campaign in March 2025, motivated by what she describes as inequities within existing systems and a desire to expand representation in government. She focuses much of her outreach on voter education and community engagement.
Her policy priorities include expanding access to healthcare, supporting universal childcare, and protecting civil liberties. Thomas says she hopes to bring a younger perspective to public leadership and to highlight the diversity, resilience, and potential of Oklahoma communities.
County Democrats said this is a different meeting location than normal. They are hoping this will help to reach more Democrats across McClain County. Anyone can attend.
