Both the Newcastle Racers and Racer girls basketball teams will play at home against Southeast in the first round of the OSSAA Class 5A West Regional Basketball Tournament.
The Racers will play at 6 p.m. Friday, while the Racer girls will play at 6 p.m. Thursday.
On the boys’ side, Lawton will play against Duncan starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, while Guymon girls will take on Altus at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Racer girls are Sweetpea Invitational Champions Nearly four weeks after the snow and ice cancelled school classes in Oklahoma, the Newcastle Racer girls have finally been named champions of the Sweetpea Invitational Tournament.
A rescheduled game with Grind Prep Academy Tuesday, February 17 resulted in a 67-55 win for Newcastle. Grind Prep is a private school in Oklahoma City for students in grades 6-12 and focuses on elite athletics and education.
The Racers came out strong scoring 19 points to Grind Prep’s 9. The opponent came back in the second period scoring 18 to Newcastle’s 12. Third period scoring kept the Racers on top as Newcastle scored 20 and Grind Prep had 15. The Racers led in the fourth period, as well, scoring 16 to 13.
Kalani Kindred led Newcastle scoring with 18 points. Jordyn Richardson had 14, Amara King had 11, and Ziyah Sims had 10. Jailiana Salas notched 8, and Reagan Greenroyd added 6.
Racers beat Grind Prep
On the boys’ side against Grind Prep, Ivan Antwi-Donkor scored 20 points, Tony (TJ) Williams Jr. scored 17, and Kolton Brammer had 14 points in a Newcastle pick-up game against Norman private school Terra Verde. The Racers defeated Terra Verde, 72-62. Cole Seely added 11 points, Alan Price had 6, and Jon’Tre Sloan and Owen Wright had 2 each.
Terra Verde was led by Kristian Payne with 18 and James Gituma with 17.

Racers are Sweetpea Invitational Tournament Champions.
