Newcastle’s Gage Stark (120 lbs) was named Regional Champion at the Class 5A West Regional at Noble last Friday and Saturday. Rylan Rinehart (190 lbs) won second place, and Colton Dobbs (113 lbs) won third place.

The three wrestlers qualified for the OSSAA State Tournament at the OGE Coliseum this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

This was the final tournament for two Newcastle seniors. Jaxon Mitchell came up one match short of placing, losing in the consolation quarterfinals, and Jace Pierce was eliminated in the Consolation Preliminary round just before the quarterfinals.

Juniors Gage Stark and Rylan Rinehart gave outstanding performances reaching the Championship Finals, and Sophomore Colton Dobbs made it into the Consolation Finals.

The Newcastle wrestlers at State will begin wrestling on Friday morning.

Newcastle girls finished their season at the Class 6A Regional Tournament, considered to be a tough Region with State qualifiers and State placers in every weight division.

Addison Schuringa fell one match short of placing. Coaches said this year’s 6A West Regional had 38 teams with 265 entires, and the largest bracket had 26 girls competing.

Some Newcastle Girls did take part at the Oklahoma Kids Wrestling Association Open State Championships. Placers were: Myka Loman, 4th; Noah Yates, 5th; and McKinsley Pick, 6th.
