Newcastle Livestock Show is Feb. 16, Bonus Auction seeks support, is Feb. 28

It’s the time of year again for the Newcastle Livestock Show & Bonus Auction.

Local FFA and 4-H future leaders invite the community and supporters to this year’s show, at 6:30 p.m. Monday, February 16 at the Fair Barn, just off Main Street next to Scooters Coffee.

They also invite the public to the Bonus Auction, which will have both a live and a silent auction, at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 28, also at the Fair Barn.

A group spokesperson said, “We would love to see you all there. We are forever grateful for the continued support from so many of you. We are looking forward to seeing you all and making this year amazing for each of these students.”

Business owners and local residents are asked to donate to either the silent or live auction. Organizers said they would love to partner with you and showcase your business, while you show support for Newcastle students.

The Newcastle Bonus Auction is an annual community event, which assists the Newcastle FFA and 4H students with the cost of their livestock projects. The students participating in this livestock show and auction must meet certain academic criteria for grades and animal management. Many of these students have shown their animals in state and national competitions representing the community, the school and the FFA and 4H chapters of Newcastle.

Local sponsors bid on these animals to provide a “Bonus” to the students. Ownership is NOT transferred, but the successful bidders are invited to take a photograph with the student and their animal after the auction. The photograph is presented to the buyer at the Appreciation Dinner.

A livestock show prior to the auction will determine which animals qualify for the auction and their relative placement in the sale. Although all students do not make the sale, all participants are awarded for their work. Additional funds are sought for these students who show but do not make the final auction list.

All contributors will receive an invitation for a very special Appreciation Dinner to be held later in the spring.

Those who participate in the auction do so by bidding and become the successful “buyer” for an animal. You can also support this auction by providing “add-on” bonuses for any of these students. The total amount of the add-ons can equal or even exceed the amount of the “live” bid for the animal. You do not have to be present at the auction to bid or add on to a student. You can pledge to any booster club member your support for a formal bid or add-on.

Those who cannot be present and would like to donate, can mail your donation to P.O. Box 158, Newcastle, OK 73065.
