Council member Mike Fullerton working on replacing flag at Newcastle Field House
Newcastle City Council member Mike Fullerton is preparing to raise funds to replace the American and Oklahoma flags at the Newcastle High School gymnasium.
He has been working with Ryan Reed, owner of Budget Flag and Banner in Oklahoma City, to determine how much it would cost to not only replace the flags, but also install a mechanical device that rolls the flags up and down.
“The American flag is currently not as grand as it should be,” Fullerton said. “I think everyone agrees that it could be displayed better.”
The American Flag would be 12 foot by 18 foot. They would also install a Newcastle Racer flag as part of the display.
Fullerton, who is a former volunteer for the Boy Scouts Troop and Cub Scout Pack 231, said he has had discussions with Athletic Director Jeff Brickman, about the possibility. He has also been talking with the Newcastle Education Foundation to determine if funds and the project could go through their organization.
Fullerton’s next stop if all works out, is a presentation to the Newcastle Board of Education to seek their blessing on the project.
Fullerton said he believes he’ll have to raise about $20,000. The raising and lowering device itself costs approximately $7,000.
