Racer boys, girls beat Del City; played Lawton MacArthur Tuesday night

A win against Del City last week not only kept the Newcastle Racer girls in first place in their Conference, but also gave them first place in all of girls’ Class 5A.

The 52-50 victory came amid a flurry of late threepointers by Del City’s Sacha Hunt-Smith, and a 24-point fourth period by the Eagles.

Newcastle led first and second period scoring 11-8 and 15-9, before both teams scored only 9 points in the third period. The Racers had 15 in the fourth to Del City’s 24, but it was enough for the Racer win.

Jordyn Richardson led Newcastle scoring with 15 points. Ziyah Sims had 10, while Lilly Taliaferro and Kalani Kindred had 7 each. Amara King added 6 points, while Jailiana Salas and Reagan Greenroyd each had 3.

The Newcastle girls are now into the last stretch of the season with Class 5A teams to play including Lawton MacArthur, Bishop McGuinness, Classen SAS and Altus. They’ll also face Class 4A Tuttle again.

The Racer girls have a 17-2 overall season record with their only two losses coming on a trip out of state to face national competition. They are 10-0 in Conference play.

The Newcastle boys also beat Del City, 65-47. They are 16-2 overall and 8-2 in Conference play.

The Racers are in third place in the Conference behind Classen SAS (8-1), and Del City (7-1).
