New 2-hour themed activities planned at Newcastle parks
In its ever-expanding offering of community activities, the Newcastle Parks & Recreation Department is now planning to premiere Pop Up in the Park.
Parks & Recreation Director Kyle Marks (from Parks) explains that Pop Up in the Park will take place throughout this year and will be an activity- or themed-event which utilizes Newcastle’s Parks system.
These events will be about two hours long, and planned on days when the kids are out of school.
“In the most recent community survey, residents expressed a desire for more small-scale, easy-to-attend pop up events,” Marks said. “The cost to attend is free and no registration will be required. They are intended to deliver meaningful experiences without the scale or cost of major festivals.”
Marks said they’ll be easy to attend, and are intentionally small and simpler — focused on giving families something fun to do without turning it into an all day commitment.
Themes and activities planned so far include Kites in the Sky, Veterans Park Splash Pad activities, a Chalk Walk, a Fall-themed craft and activity event, and Potter in the Park.
Following is a list of the activities, when they are being held, and what community members can expect:
