Pioneer Library System (PLS) is shining a light on health and wellness this season, with a special focus on mental health for teens and adults. Prioritize mental wellness in the new year through your library’s events, books, and resources designed to help you pause, reflect, and recharge.
Through workshops, discussions, and creative events, libraries across Cleveland, McClain, and Pottawatomie counties are creating space for community members to pause and focus on their mental well-being.
Libraries have long been safe, supportive spaces where individuals can nurture their well-being, connect with others, and find tools for personal growth. Programs such as guided mindfulness sessions, reflective journaling, and personal exercise events help individuals build healthy habits for the mind and spirit.
“As we discover more and more, our mental health and wellness are linked to nearly every facet of our overall health and well-being. Here at PLS, we are committed to educating our communities about mental wellness and providing tools, tips, and resources to foster self-awareness,” says Health Signature Service Coordinator Matthew Milligan. “Our goal is to remind everyone that you don’t have to face life’s challenges alone — your library is here to serve as a safe space to learn, connect, grow, build community, and breathe.”
PLS also offers resources online that include educational and instruction information available 24/7, such as:
• Teen Health and Wellness via the PLS website, which offers content on diseases, drugs, alcohol, nutrition, mental health, suicide, bullying, LGBTQ+ issues, and more.
• HealthSource Consumer Edition, which provides access to nearly 80 full text, consumer health magazines, including information on many health topics.
• Kanopy, including Great Courses series covering mental health and stress reduction, emotional intelligence, and much more hoopla, featuring audiobooks and eBooks detailing healthy lifestyles and the science of healthy habits.
