Burn Ban in effect for county

Due to the lack of moisture for the past several months and the tinder dry conditions, McClain County Commissioners voted for a county-wide burn ban at their weekly meeting Monday at the county courthouse.

Commissioners Wilson Lyles, Glen Murray and Terry Daniel voted unanimously to ban the burning of anything outdoors including grass, campfires, trash or bonfires.

Anyone caught doing such burning faces a misdemeanor charge subject up to a $500 fine and imprisonment for up to a year.

The burn ban is effective immediately and will be for a period not to exceed 14 days.

If the extreme fire danger conditions persist, subsequent resolutions may be passed. Exceptions include road construction equipment which uses propane.
