Infrastructure on Town Center Plaza about to be underway

Newcastle Council members discussed several agenda items in their December meeting concerning the Town Center Plaza project.

The City’s commercial development will soon have water and sewer infrastructure work underway.

City Manager Kevin Self told the Council, “Some infrastructure items have been received. Hopefully we will be started with that project pretty quick.”

Self said the work would take some time, but the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has given its approval for this part of the project. ODEQ permits have been approved for the use of various sizes of PVC in Town Center Plaza.

The Council also approved paving and drainage work for the project, but that work is not expected to begin until possibly late spring or maybe early summer next year, Self said. The City is working with a contractor to do this work.

In other City of Newcastle news, the Council approved the $71,000 purchase of aluminum bleachers for the Newcastle Sports Complex.

Self said every area of the ball fields will be covered with the bleachers, and Parks & Recreation has been on the site determining what will fit at each ball field. Self said the softball field, because of its location near the concession stand and near drainage, will not get the same length and amount of bleachers as the other fields.
