Emergency mental health crisis call concludes with man shooting himself

Officers with the Newcastle Police Department responded on Wednesday, December 24, to 2337 North Main Street in reference to a male subject experiencing a mental health crisis. While officers were attempting to make contact with the subject, they heard a single gunshot come from a room inside the hotel.

Officers later made entry into the room and located one adult male with an apparent selfinflicted gunshot wound. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

NPD states that at this time, the scene was secure and there was no threat to the public.

This incident remains an ongoing investigation. No additional details are available at this time.
