Racer girls beat Del City, boys lose

Newcastle’s girls beat their Del City opponent, 67-60, in a game Tuesday, December 9. The Racers lost their match to Del City, 55-51.

The Racer girls led scoring throughout their match until the third period putting in 16 to Del City’s 12 in the first period, and then 17 to 12 in the second. Del City hit 19 points in the third, while Newcastle only had 13. This cut the Newcastle lead to three points, but the Racers took control again in the fourth period scoring 21 to Del City’s 17.

Kalani Kindred led scoring for Newcastle with 20 points. Amara King hit 13 points, and Jordyn Richardson had 12. Ziyah Sims hit 9 points, Lilly Talliaferro had 8, Jailiana Salas had 3, and Reagan Greenroyd had 2.

Del City’s scoring was led by Sacha Hunt-Smith with 24 points.

The Newcastle boys had their first loss of the year against Del City. The Racers were coming off a win against Class 6A Muskogee on December 6, 75-53.

Against the Roughers, Newcastle came out hot on offense, scoring 31 first-period points to Muskogee’s 9. The Racers added 21 in the second period, 12 and 11 in the third and fourth periods. Muskogee had 12 in the second period, 16 in the third, and 16 in the fourth.

Three Racers scored in double figures during the game. Ivan Antwi-Donkor and Kolton Brammer shared high score with 15 points each. TJ Williams had 14. Owen Wright hit 9 and Jon’Tre Sloan had 6. Nathan Espino hit four points and Weston Lightle had 3. Kamdyn Colbert, Joey Folsom, and Deacon Lyles, each had 2.

Both Newcastle teams played against Lawton MacArthur on Tuesday, December 16, but the results could not be reported because of Newcastle Pacer print deadlines earlier that day.
