Newcastle dog licks his way into the Guinness World Records
Newcastle, Oklahoma is famous for its shared name with many Newcastles located around the world. The old timers and many Newcastle residents have a love for the old bridge which once spanned across the South Canadian River. Newcastle is famous currently for its fast pace of population growth.
With yesterday’s (Thursday’s) naming of a local dog as a Guinness World Record holder, Newcastle can now boast that it is home to Ozzy and his long tongue.
Guinness World Records announced Wednesday that four-year-old Ozzy Pick, a French Mastiff/Bull Mastiff mixture, is the new record holder for the longest tongue on a living dog.
Ozzy is the pet of Angela and Jon Pick of Newcastle. He received a certificate from Guinness stating, “The longest tongue on a living dog is 19.89 cm (7.83”) and was achieved by Ozzy Pick (UA) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA, on 12 September 2025.”
Angela said Ozzy was one of a litter of 12 puppies delivered by her mom, Pearl. The Picks were going to keep a female out of the litter, but with Ozzy’s personality they decided to keep him.
Angela said, “He had a great nature, and we thought he would be a good fit for the family.”
She added, “He is extremely lazy, but also stays active when he goes outside. He is very playful and likes to hop around like a kangaroo.”
He’s a big dog, and doesn’t always know his size. Angela said he likes to tackle family members, but no one gets hurt. He also likes to take Jon’s shop rags and play with them in the yard.
The Picks had been think- OZZY on page 3 ing about contacting Guinness World Records about Ozzy’s tongue for the past two years, and after a conversation with a Newcastle veterinarian, decided it was time to do so. The veterinarian’s office was excited to measure Ozzy’s tongue so the Picks could send in an application. The result of the application was Wednesday’s announcement of the new record.

Angela said there is no explanation for the size of Ozzy’s tongue. She said he was born with it, and it stuck out of his mouth.
“He’s not a kisser or a tongue licker, but he does like to rub noses,” Angela said.
“There’s nothing medically wrong with him,” Angela said, “it’s just abnormally and awkwardly long.”
The length makes it difficult for Ozzy to eat at times, but he also can keep it in his mouth, she said.
Because of the tongue, the Picks feed Ozzy a high-activity dog food that they purchase from a Newcastle feed store.
“We thought this would be best for his weight and something easier for him to eat than canned food,” Angela said. “He also likes double cheeseburgers from McDonalds and spaghetti.”
The Picks are also the coordinators of their non-profit Pick’s Promises (see related story in this issue).
Pick’s Promises will be set up with a table at Newcastle’s Christmas in the Park on Saturday.
They will be accepting donations for the non-profit for individuals who want to take photos with Ozzy and his Guinness World Record framed certificate.
