It is the time of the year for being thankful and for looking at ways to help those who may be less fortunate than ourselves. One of those ways is to select an angel from the Angel Tree, or by donating to a local program which provides this giving service.
Local non-profit Pick’s Promises is the coordinator for an Angel Tree program for the community of Newcastle.
Angela Pick said, “We team up with Newcas tle Public Schools, Newcastle Fire Department and Victory Family Church (Newcastle campus) to provide Christmas for families in our community. We are currently serving 60 families with 193 children so far.”
Pick said there are Angel Tree tags at each of the Newcastle school sites and at the Newcastle Library.
“This is my 21st year to coordinate this program and our third year since we started our nonprofit,” Pick said.
She said she joined Newcastle Elementary School secretary Sandy Litchwald about 25 years ago to help work on the Angel Tree program, and when Litchwald retired, she DONATIONS on page 3 “passed over the reigns.”

Pick said Litchwald was the elementary secretary when she attended Newcastle Elementary School.
For those who would rather donate money directly to the program, Pick said donation containers are distributed to some of Newcastle’s local businesses. They include: Maggie Moo, New China, The Pizza Shop, Wynne’s Feed, Trading Post Dispensary, Impact Nutrition, The Outpost, San Marcos Mexican Restaurant, The First National Bank & Trust-Newcastle, and RB 66 gas station.
Pick said, “If you are a business owner and would like to set a donation container out, please let me know. If there are any businesses or individuals who would like to make a donation, we can provide a donation letter through our nonprofit organization.”
She added, “We live in an amazing community and none of this would be possible without the community’s support.”
Pick’s Promises will also be selling shirts to raise money. To order, go online to: https://forms.gle/dvTn-MtWmeBCa4ASJ8. They are available in long sleeve, crew neck, sweat shirt, and hoodies, in sizes from 0-3 months, up to 4X.
Pick’s Promises was established in July 2023 as a nonprofit organization to collect and distribute goods to the families who are in need in the community. Angela said they are grateful for all the volunteers that help each year.
She said, “We couldn’t provide for our Newcastle community without everyone’s participation.”
