3 of 4 teams remaining are from Racers’ District

Three of the remaining football teams in the Class 5A State Playoffs are from District 5A-1.

Newcastle, Lawton MacArthur, and Bishop McGuinness join Carl Albert to remain playing this week in the State Semi-Finals.

The Racers play Carl Albert Friday night and Bishop Mc-Guinness and MacArthur square off to determine the final two teams vying for the State Championship.

Newcastle Head Coach Jeff Brickman said the results speak to the strength of the Racers’ District.

All three District 5A-1 teams finished 5-1 in District competition.

The Racers took their only loss to McGuiness, 24-14. Mc-Guinness lost to MacArthur, 35-21, and MacArthur took its loss to Newcastle, 41-32.

Carl Albert finished at the top of District 5A-2 with a 7-0 record. They finished the year 12-0, and in post-season play they beat Duncan, 45-17, in the first round, and McAlester, 55-0, in the Quarterfinals.

For the Semi-Finals, the Racers face Carl Albert at 7 p.m. Friday at Norman North High School. Lawton MacArthur and Bishop McGuiness play at 7 p.m., Friday at Noble High School.

The State Championship is at noon on Saturday, December 6 at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
