On Monday, November 10, the City of Newcastle welcomed three new members of the Newcastle Police Department.
Shyla Savage, Hayden Rider, and Madison Tygart were officially sworn in by Mayor Karl Nail at the start of the regularly scheduled City Council meeting.
City of Newcastle Information Director Scott Hannan said, “Becoming a police officer is a commitment to service, integrity, and community.
“These new officers have chosen a path dedicated to protecting and helping others, and we are honored that they’ve chosen to begin that journey here in Newcastle.”
Hannan said family members and fellow officers were in attendance to celebrate the special moment.
He said it is “a reminder that behind every badge are people — families, friends, and a community that stands together in support.”
All three were hired in July and will complete their CLEET graduation at 1 p.m. on December 16, marking the official start of their careers in law enforcement.
Hannan said, “We congratulate them on this milestone and look forward to the positive impact they will have as they serve our city.”
