McClain County GOP’s next meeting is Monday, November 17 in Newcastle.
McClain County GOP Chairman Paul Maus said, “We look forward to meeting you at the Newcastle Storm Shelter, located at 851 North Carr Drive, at 7 p.m. to listen to Melissa Capps.”
She is a director working with the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector’s office. She is also a candidate for Oklahoma State Auditor.
Maus said Cindy Byrd was originally scheduled to speak, but had a conflict in her schedule. In Byrd’s role as State Auditor, her team exposed $200 million in misappropriated public-education funds — the largest amount of misappropriated funds in the history of the state.
Maus said this occurred when the governor’s requested audit of the largest public school resulted in more than $200 million in questionable expenditures that were siphoned out of the school’s general fund and placed into private accounts.
“It is estimated that millions of taxpayer funds dedicated to Oklahoma students’educationswereinappropriately diverted to enrich two businessmen who created a complex scheme with a public charter school funded with tax dollars,” Maus said. “Some of these funds dedicated for student learning were traced to their business accounts in California.”
Maus said in addition, Byrd and her teams have uncovered corruption, fraud, abuse, and waste at the local levels of government in the state, which has resulted in the removal of some officials from office, and have revamped local-government reporting for more-transparent information. Maus said through Byrd’s office’s communications with legislators, meaningful legislation has already been passed that will increase transparency and accountability of taxpayer dollars.
