Newcastle concluded Homecoming Week with a 63-0 shellacking of the Classen School of Advanced Studies on Friday night.
Head Coach Jeff Brickman said the Racers scored on offense, defense and special teams.
“We also posted a shut out on defense,” he said, “and we met every team goal for offense and defense.”
The Racers posted 28 first quarter points, 21 second quarter points and 14 third quarter points for their total.
On the first Racer offensive play of the game, Taylor (TJ) Bradford ran for a long touchdown run. On another touchdown, Ashton Shumard intercepted the ball and returned it for a touchdown. Brickman said these were the bigger offensive plays of the game.
On defense, Preston Scagnetti made several big tackles, and by the end of the game almost every player saw some time on the field.
The Racers completed six of seven passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns. They rushed 21 times for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Newcastle amassed 394 yards on 28 plays.
The Racer defense scored on the interception return, and the Racers scored two times with the punt return unit.
Individuals being recognized included Kaden Longman as Most Valuable Player. Darian Wade was named Scout Team Player of the Week. Preston Scagnetti received the Hammer award. Landin Judkins was recognized with the Knockdowns award with five. Bradford was the Offensive Player of the Game, while Scagnetti was the Defensive Player of the Game.
Newcastle lines up at home again for senior night on Friday against Lawton MacArthur. Brickman said it should be a great game. Both teams are undefeated in Class 5A-1. The win makes Newcastle 5-2 overall on the season.
