Racers are Regional Champs

Host Cache today in Super Regionals

Super Regionals is coming to Newcastle today and possibly Friday, if necessary. The Racers earned the opportunity to host Super Regionals by winning the Regional Tournament last week.

Newcastle beat Ardmore, 22-0, and moved forward in the tournament brackets to Play Bridge Creek, winning 18-0.

The Bobcats worked their way back to play Newcastle again in the finals, but the Racers again prevailed with a 7-6 victory to claim the Regional Championship.

Super Regionals is scheduled against Cache for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. games on Thursday, and an if-necessary game at noon on Friday. The winner goes to State.

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association Class 4A Fast-Pitch State Tournament is October 16-18.

The Racers were ranked number 7 in their class, with a similar overall win-loss record to the top eight, with the exception of number-one ranked Lone Grove, who has a 32-3 record.

Blanchard and Tuttle are number two and number three, while Elk City is four, Oologah-Talala is 5. Tecumseh is ranked number six, and Plainview is 8.

Cache is ranked number 10 with a 26-11 overall record. They are 17-6 against Class 4A competitors, and they’ve gone 4-0 in the last seven days of competition, winning their Regional Tournament against Bishop McGuiness and Purcell.

Lily Taliaferro scored the winning run at Regionals for the Racers in the bottom of the 7th inning. With the game tied up, Jordie Brooks had a 3-2 count and got a walk-off single to bring Taliaferro in. • by Vickie Crossley
