SWOSU senior Zack Roberts has been named the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for week four, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Roberts, a 5’ 10” 200-pound defensive back, is a graduate of Newcastle High School.
The honor is SWOSU’s first player of the week award this season and the first of Roberts’ career. He’s also the first Bulldog defensive player to earn the award since RJ Powell in week nine of the 2023 season.
Roberts anchored SWOSU’s defense in the 3824 win over Oklahoma Baptist University, recording a team-high 10 tackles (6 solo, 4 assisted) – his second consecutive game with doubledigit stops.
He also intercepted a firstquarter pass and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown, marking his first interception of the season and the third of his career.
The score gave SWOSU two straight games with a defensive touchdown. The Bulldogs have now won two straight and will return home this Saturday to host Henderson State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Weatherford.
