Racers open with Ardmore at 11 a.m.
Newcastle finished its fastpitch Class 4A-1 District competition in second place tied with Tuttle at 9-1 in the District and 23-6 overall. Tuttle held the number one spot because of scoring more points against District opponents.
Tuttle beat Newcastle on September 3 by a score of 6-0, but the Racers came back for the 5-4 win on September 8.
Newcastle hosts the Regional Tournament beginning at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) and concluding Friday. The Racers open play with the 11 a.m. game against Ardmore. Clinton takes on Bridge Creek at 1 p.m. and the winners of the two earlier games will play at 5 p.m. Thursday. Competition continues on Friday with games at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and if necessary at 3 p.m.
Ardmore has a 1-16 record, Clinton has an 8-16 record, and Bridge Creek has a 17-16 record.
The Racers went 3-0 last week and have won their last seven games. They beat Harrah in a 3-2 game, before taking on Sulphur to a 6-3 win. Their final game before Regionals was against El Reno. The Racers won, 13-5.
