Newcastle Rotary Club International members took on a project to promote literacy and community connection. They partnered with “The Little Read Wagon” program to hide books around Newcastle parks.

These books can be taken home by their finders, and kept and enjoyed, or they can be read and then taken back to the local park to be hidden for someone else to find.

Newcastle Rotary President Mandy Yarnell said the initiative has brought smiles to park visitors and encourages reading in a fun, interactive way.

Little Read Wagon aims to help close the literacy gap created by poverty and to share a love for books and reading with marginalized populations. The Rotary program partners with The Little Read Wagon to help accomplish these goals.

The Little Read Wagon program also encourages those who find one of the books to take a picture and post on social media with the tag #Look4ABook.
