MATC Monthly Spotlight

Mid-America Technology Center / From the desk of Mike Eubank

As part of our efforts to share the great things happening at Mid-America Technology Center, we’re excited to highlight this month’s stories.

Campus News

Mid-America welcomes Iron Wolf Coffee Shop as its newest campus addition. This is Iron Wolf’s fourth location, joining Pauls Valley, Maysville, and Davis. Owner Isaiah Hodges says the MATC shop will feature the same menu of hot and cold drinks, smoothies, and locally sourced food items. The partnership also provides internship opportunities for MATC students enrolled in the Retail and Dining Assistant program.

Business Partner Spotlight

This month we recognize CVR Energy. CVR Energy’s Wynnewood refinery plays a vital role in refining and supplying petroleum products across the Midwest while providing quality jobs and supporting local initiatives. Beyond operations, the Wynnewood team is deeply committed to safety, innovation, and community partnership, providing good jobs and supporting local initiatives. CVR has also partnered with Mid-America Technology Center to provide a wide range of industrial and leadership training, strengthening both workforce development and long-term success.

Teacher Spotlight

Kyla Perry has been an educator for 29 years, including 25 in public schools. She launched MATC’s Business Office Assistant program in 2021 and actively supports CareerTech through OKACTE, ACTE, SkillsUSA, and MATC’s committees. She was named 2025 BMITE New Teacher of the Year and previously earned Secondary Advisor of the Year from Business Professionals of America. Dedicated to student success, she recruits learners from 18 schools across five counties. Outside work, Kyla enjoys reading, outdoor activities, cheering on her grandchildren, and caring for animals.

Staff Spotlight

Dr. Amanda Cummings, assessment coordinator, leads efforts to expand MATC’s testing services. With a Ph.D. from OU, she brings expertise in assessment and workforce development. The Assessment Center now offers more industry-recognized exams — including NCCER, Pearson VUE, ETS, PROV, and ASE — across 36 testing stations. Walk-in availability and online scheduling make access more convenient for students, professionals, and community members.

Program Spotlight

Health Careers Explorer, led by Mrs. Wilkey, Mrs. Laningham, and Mrs. Knobloch, introduces students to healthcare professions while building essential skills. The program concludes with students earning their Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) credential, preparing them for careers and meeting critical community needs.

Board Update

In June, MATC earned Gold Star recognition from the Oklahoma Association for Career and Technology Education for excellence in student achievement, partnerships, and community engagement. In August, the board approved purchasing a $50,000 alignment machine for the Medium Heavy Diesel Technology program, funded through a Lottery Grant. The board also approved adjunct science teacher designations for the Health Career Explorer instructors and welcomed five new staff members: Jarrod Morse - Graphic Design Teacher, Dana Rico - Activity Fund Custodian, Kara Davis - Teacher Assistant, Cinthia Ramirez - Housekeeper, and Kenya Huchingson - Housekeeper.

We look forward to sharing more amazing stories in the following months about MATC. For enrollment information and class offerings, check us out at matech.edu, or stop by to arrange a tour.
