Racers let loose ‘O’ to 63-40 win over Lions

“Explosive offense” and two interceptions for touchdowns provided the fodder for a 63-40 Newcastle win over the Blanchard Lions on Friday night.

The win puts the Racers back on the positive side for the season with a 2-1 record, having lost only to Tuttle.

Newcastle scored in double digits in every quarter, with 14, 14, 21 and 14, compared to Blanchard’s 0, 12, 12 and 16.

On the first drive of the game, the Racers scored on a third down and 21 yards to go, on a 23-yard screen to Taylor Bradford.

Other big plays of the game included a 63-yard touchdown run by Ben Rogers, interceptions for touchdowns by Santorrio Boykins and Alec Shumard. Boykins also ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Rogers and Bradford ran for more than 100 yards each. Alec Shumard had more than 100 yards receiving. Blake Creswell was 16-22 for 228 yards and three touchdowns.

Alec Shumard was named Most Valuable Player of the game. Creswell was name Offensive Player of the Game, while Cody Nix was named Defensive Player of the Game. Boykins was the Special Teams Player of the Game.

Garrett Pratt was the Knock Down leader of the team with 11, and Beau Birdsong received the Scout Team award, and Kaden Longman earned the Hammer.

Newcastle lines up against Elgin at home on Friday. Coach Jeff Brickman said the Owls are “a very intriguing matchup,” and they have “a very physical team.”
