A 35-7 loss to the Tuttle Tigers came on the heels of a big season opening win against Bartlesville for the Racers.
The Friday night pre-district road game saw the Tigers score at least one touchdown in every quarter, while the Racers were held to only one third-quarter touchdown, making Newcastle 1-1 on the year.
Head Coach Jeff Brickman said Tuttle had some big throws down field which aided their success, while Newcastle’s offense faced some adversity.
“Our offense had some execution errors on critical downs,” Brickman said.
He said on defense at the 9:34 mark in the second quarter, the Racers made a significant surge, and on the first offensive possession in the third quarter, the Racers put together a great touchdown drive.
Ben Rogers started off the drive, with a big kickoff return, according to Brickman. The coach said the Tigers answered back to finish the game on top.
Taylor Bradford had 15 tackles in the game, while Cayden Davis and Ashton Shumard each had 14 tackles.
B radford was named Offensive Player of the Game, Defensive Player of the Game, and Most Valuable Player of the Game. Bryan Medrano was the Special Teams Player of the Game.
Kaden Longman was voted by the staff for the Hammer Award, and Jace Ledoux had the most Knock Downs with five. Max Heskew was the Scout Team Player of the Week.
Blanchard will visit Newcastle for this Friday’s game. Brickman said it will be great to play at home after two road games. He said they are another cross town rival. They run a 3-4 defense, and a spread offense.
Blanchard beat Noble, 34-14, last week.
