Protecting Oklahoma children from harms of ‘gender transition’

GENERALLY SPEAKING / From the desk of Gentner Drummond

If I had to describe in one short sentence what my top priority is as your Attorney General, it boils down to this: I fight every day to protect the people of Oklahoma. I fight to protect our communities from illegal marijuana grows run by Mexican drug cartels and Chinese crime syndicates. I fight to protect citizens and businesses from unlawful government overreach. And I always fight to protect our children, whether from online predators or from radical indoctrination.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals delivered a decisive victory in the battle to protect Oklahoma children from harmful and irreversible “gender transition” procedures. I have been fighting to secure this protection for nearly two years, across multiple federal courts and even at the United States Supreme Court. I am proud to report that the battle is finally won.

Adults in America have the freedom to make life-altering decisions. But adults in Oklahoma do not have the right to subject their children to the harmful and permanent procedures that some call “gender affirming care.” The Tenth Circuit decision now ensures our children are protected from what amounts to experimental procedures.

This ruling is not just a win for the law. It is a win for common sense, moral clarity and the constitutional principle of states’ rights. Oklahoma will not be forced to follow the same path as California and New York. We are free to uphold our own values, not forced to adopt theirs.

Fighting against my efforts in this case was a familiar foe: the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The Tenth Circuit saw through that group’s accusations of bigotry and discrimination, affirming our law protecting children is rooted in the legitimate, rational interest of safeguarding children’s health and well-being. As the Court noted, there is “no evidence” that our law was passed to discriminate.

While this latest victory represents a significant milestone in our nation’s collective return to common sense, it does not mean the radical left is thoroughly defeated. Not by a long shot. They will never rest in their efforts to dismantle the American pillars of faith and freedom. As your Attorney General, I will fight against those forces every step of the way.

It is an honor to serve the people of Oklahoma as I defend the rule of law and uphold the United States Constitution. I will continue fighting to protect our families, our values, our sovereignty and our children.
