Dear Editor,
Iread the article “Protesters make statement as Congressman Cole visits Purcell” by Mark Codner.
In this article, the author includes, “A couple of discrepancies to note include that Cole has been available in communities in the last six years, visiting community meetings, and visiting all nine counties he represents. As well, Cole has been in contact with the administration and they have responded that the Trump administration proposed cuts of the National Weather Service would not be pushed through.”
This is misinformation by the writer. It is an objective fact that the last in-person town hall that Cole has held was six years ago. The events the writer listed were not town halls or a place for dialogue and dissent as a town hall would be.
Secondly, it is also an objective fact that the Trump Administration did indeed make cuts that Cole did not prevent. In fact, it was all over the news today, including an article in today’s NYT, “Weather service is hiring hundreds after sweeping cuts earlier this year,” as well as on KOCO 5, “The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will hire as many as 450 people to shore up the National Weather Service after deep cuts this spring raised concern about dangerous understaffing.”
Would your paper consider a clarification to clear up the misinformation? It’s critical that readers receive accurate information.
Thank you for the consideration to this matter.
