Clarification

In last week’s story about “Protestors make statement as Congressman Cole visits Purcell,” we noted a couple of what we described as “discrepancies.” In order to make the story more clear, we believe a clarification is in order.

One of the complaints by Tri-City Women in Action was the following: “Cole has lied about Norman weather center funding.” While the intent of this statement is unclear, we felt it important to note what was taking place concerning the National Weather Service.

We did not outline the specifics, but there were cuts of staffing initially made at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. These cuts were then haulted (or, as we reported, not pushed through, according to Cole’s office) due to Representative Cole’s efforts in contacting the administration. Of jobs initially cut, approximately 450 are to be rehired, according to the Wall Street Journal, bringing the agency almost back to pre-cut level.

We feel if we had provided more information, this story would have been more clear. Please understand that politics are not always black and white, and sides taking stands are many times in the grey.
