Mid-America Technology Center (MATC) students showcased their exceptional skills at the 2025 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC), held in Atlanta, Georgia. Competing against the best students from across the country, two MATC students brought home prestigious Silver medals.
Bailey, Beaman, a first-year Horticulture student, earned Silver in the Customer Service competition. This event challenges students to demonstrate their customer service abilities through written exams and live role-play scenarios. Competitors are evaluated on their communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, telephone and computer skills, and professional etiquette.
Ayden Dobbels, a recent Diesel Service program graduate, won Silver in the Diesel Equipment Technology competition. Contestants were challenged at multiple stations covering engines, electronics, powertrains, hydraulics, A/C systems, brakes, and more. The event also featured a written exam, hands-on diagnostics, and a professional interview. In recognition of his exceptional performance, Ayden received cash awards from Aerotek and UPS, along with a tool cart and hand tools generously provided by Snapon. Held annually in June, the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference is the largest showcase of career and technical education in the United States. With more than 17,500 attendees and 6,500 student competitors, the event celebrates and achievements of America’s future skilled workforce across 114 contest categories.
