Parks & Recreation reschedules Newcastle Fishing Derby for July 19

Newcastle Parks & Recreation and the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation have rescheduled the rain-delayed Newcastle Youth Fishing Derby for 5-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19.

Newcastle Parks & Recreation Director Kyle Marks said, “We are trying sunset fishing this time. We’ll see how people like it this year and gauge whether we want to change it from morning to evening next year.”

The annual event, held at the Veterans Park pond at 803 N. Carr Drive, is for kids through age 15.

Prizes will be awarded for first place and second place Biggest Fish for ages six and under, seven through 10, and 11-15, and in the categories of Overall Longest Fish, and Best Dressed Angler.

First place is a fishing backpack and a gift card. Second place is also a fishing backpack and a gift card. Participants are also eligible to win one of more than 200 prizes.

Entry is free for the event and pre-registration is online until Tuesday, July 15, or from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on the day of the event. Participants can pre-register at newcastleok. gov/events.

Organizers said if you preregistered for the June 7 date, you won’t need to pre-register again.

Sponsors for the event are Snow Enterprises Commercial Investments, Pioneer Coop, Triton Foundation Repair, OEC Electric & Fiber, The First National Bank & Trust, Oklahoma Natural Gas, Community Bank of Oklahoma, Norman Regional Health System, Tinker Federal Credit Union, Contemporary Family Dentistry, and Boing City Party Rentals.
