Race the Radar, help raise money for Kops & Kids program

Race the Radar, help raise money for Kops & Kids program

Newcastle Police are asking area residents if they think they are fast. If so, they’d like you to prove it.

They aren’t talking about driving in cars; instead, they want you to run as fast as you can and race their radar.

They’ll be at the Newcastle Red, White & Blue Fest on Saturday with this fun speed challenge to support the Kops & Kids program.

Participants can pay $1 per try or $5 for six tries. They said all proceeds will help provide clothing for local children this Christmas.

“Come have fun, test your speed, and support a great cause,” said organizers.

The Newcastle Police Department “Kops and Kids” program helps establish positive relationships between police officers and deserving children in the community. It is a very positive experience not only for the kids who are involved, but also for the officers. Part of the fundraising effort is also the concession stand at the City’s Annual Fourth of July celebration.

Children are nominated by their local school and are able to spend a day shopping with members of the Police Department for essentials. They are given a budget for various items, including a toy, and afterwards the group has lunch together.

Newcastle officers and dispatchers said they know that children may have many questions about how a city works and what police do.

They said this is a chance for a positive relationship to develop.
