The annual Newcastle Fishing Derby at Veterans Park was postponed because of forecasted rain for Saturday, June 7.
City Parks and Recreation Director Kyle Marks said he was disappointed that the event could not be held, but the City will be rescheduling it when they can. Marks said 280 kids had signed up to fish in the event.
Marks also said with the planned Fourth of July celebration, the Red, White & Blue Festival, planned for June 28, the fishing tournament is on hold for now. They’ll make an announcement as a new date for fishing is determined.
The Red, White & Blue Festival is supposed to be bigger than ever this year with fireworks, live music, a celebration- wide Rock, Paper, Scissors. event, food trucks, kids’ games, and vendors.
