Fishing Derby set Saturday

Prizes for biggest, longest fish, best dressed angler

Newcastle Parks & Recreation will hold its annual Fishing Derby Saturday at the pond in Veterans Park, 1300 Garrett Drive, and the public is invited.

Parks & Recreation Director Kyle Marks said, “Join us bright and early on Saturday, June 7 for our Youth Fishing Derby — where the worms are wiggly, the prizes are plentiful, and the memories are waiting to be made.”

Registration is from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Participants can also sign up by registering online at https://newcastleok. gov/services/parksand- recreation/events/ youth-fishing-derby.

“This marks our fifth year for the fishing derby, and each year, we’ve witnessed a significant rise in the number of enthusiastic anglers,” Marks said.

There will be awards for 1st and 2nd place Biggest Fish in the following age groups: ages 6 and under; ages 7–10; and ages 11–15.

Awards will also be given to the fisherman who has the Longest Fish Overall, Best Dressed Angler, and various giveaways thanks to the event’s sponsors.

“Bring your tackle box, your best outfit, and your early-morning energy,” Marks said, “and we’ll bring the fun.”

Sponsors for this event are: Oklahoma Electric Cooperative, Tinker Federal Credit Union, Boing City Party Rentals, Norman Regional Health System, Pioneer Telephone Coop, Newcastle Contemporary Family Dentistry, Triton Foundation Repair LLC, The First National Bank & Trust Co., Community Bank of Oklahoma, Snow Enterprises, and Oklahoma Natural Gas.
