The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War are seeking volunteers to help preserve the legacy of their fallen ancestors.
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War meets at 10:15 a.m. on the second Saturdays of each month at the Oklahoma History Center, third floor board room, 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive in Oklahoma City.
“Are you passionate about history? Do you honor the sacrifices of those who fought to preserve the Union?” asked a spokesperson. “We need patriotic individuals like you to support our mission and keep the memory of the Boys in Blue alive.”
The local group is called the Jeremiah Smith Camp #1.
Organized in 1881 and chartered by Congress in 1954, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War are the legal successor to the Grand Army of the Republic. The Department of Oklahoma consists of three camps. They support ongoing Civil War and patriotic programs and projects throughout Oklahoma.
