Mayor Nail
Newcastle honored and remembered the area’s veterans on Monday at Newcastle Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mayor Karl Nail spoke about the significance of Memorial Day and the importance of honoring those who served from the area. Newcastle firefighters and police were joined by the Veteran Honor Guard from VFW Post 3608 to lower the flag. The Honor Guard then performed a traditional 21-gun salute, with seven veterans each firing three volleys. Councilwoman Marci White (leading the national anthem) and Vice-Mayor Gene Reid were also in attendance, along with local citizens and veterans. • photos provided
