Annual household hazardous waste cleanup June 7
The City of Newcastle invites residents to participate in its annual “Too Toxic to Trash” Household Hazardous Waste Cleanup event from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 7 at the Chickasaw Training Center, 400 NW 32nd Street in Newcastle.
“This event provides a safe and convenient opportunity for residents to dispose of household hazardous waste,” said spokesperson Scott Hannan Items which can be disposed of include:
• Oil-based paints (NO LATEX) • Tires
• Pesticides and herbicides
• Fuels and oils
• Cleaning supplies
• Sharps (needles and syringes) • Batteries and light bulbs
• Aerosol products
• Expired and unused medication Hannan said explosives and smoke detectors will not be accepted.
In addition to waste disposal, the Tri-City Hope Center will be conducting a food drive during the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to support local families in need.
At last year’s “Too Toxic to Trash” event, 111 people dropped off 42 pounds of prescription medications, 182 tires, 7,265 pounds of waste including five barrels of used oil, car batteries, lights, paints, and various other household hazardous materials.
The City and organizers CLEANUP on page 3 said they thank the volunteers from the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, and Newcastle city staff.

They also said a special thanks goes to Chickasaw Nation for the use of their facility. Grant funding to help pay for the event is being provided by ODEQ.
