Tyrone Lewis NHS Wrestling Coach

Newcastle High School announces the hiring of Tyrone Lewis as the new head coach of the Racer wrestling program. A decorated athlete, experienced leader, and passionate mentor, Coach Lewis brings a championship pedigree and a deep commitment to building up student-athletes on and off the mat.

A two-time Big XII Champion and four-time NCAA All-American at Oklahoma State University, Lewis has been at the highest levels of the sport, representing the U.S. as a national champion and Olympic alternate, and serving on 15 USA Wrestling Tour Teams. Now, he’s bringing that same drive and excellence to the Newcastle Racers.

Coach Lewis has spent nearly two decades coaching at every level of the sport, from high school to the collegiate stage. His resume includes coaching roles at Oklahoma State, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Maryland.

Most recently, he led Baker University’s wrestling program and previously revitalized the team at El Reno High School, where he was named OSSAA Class 5A Coach of the Year.

“Tyrone Lewis is the kind of coach who doesn’t just develop athletes; he develops experence. But, more importantly, he brings heart, leadership, and a genuine passion for helping young men reach their full potential. His wrestling pedigree speaks for itself and he will no doubt have an immediate influence as a direct result of what he can provide.”

He’s also known for building strong team cultures and forming lasting connections with his athletes and their families.

“I’m truly honored to be a part of the Newcastle community,” said Coach Lewis. “I’m excited to help these studentathletes grow, not just as competitors, but also as leaders, students, and teammates.”
