Two Automotive Service Technician students, Stroud Tucker from Little Axe High School and Trenton Ford from Purcell High School, have been named as the 2025 recipients of the J.W. Baker Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship, in the memory of J.W. Baker of Wayne, honors his lasting legacy at Mid-America Technology Center (MATC). Baker served as an adjunct teacher and was a supporter of the school. His passion for education, especially in the trades, made an impact on both students and staff.
In recognition of his service and commitment to the success of MATC students, donations were made in Baker’s honor to create the J.W. Baker Memorial Scholarship. Each year, the scholarship supports promising students pursuing careers in technical fields.
Tucker and Ford were selected for their academic dedication, hands-on skill development, and strong work ethic–qualities that reflect the spirit of excellence that Baker championed throughout his time at MATC.
