Lewis leads the way for Racers at State Track

Eleven Newcastle Track and Field athletes made the trip to Western Heights High School for the OSSAA Class 5A State Meet.

Katie Lewis and Alec Shumard returned with some hardware.

Lewis was a silver medalist in the Pole Vault competition with a 10’6” vault. And, she had a podium finish for her 16.48 time in the 110 hurdles.

Sophomore Alec Shumard grabbed two silver medals, setting school records for his Open 400 and his Open 800 runs. In the 400, he ran a 48.35, while in the 800 he ran a 1:54.47.

Senior Addy Holmes, juniors Emma Bell and Ryleigh Heskew, and freshman KK Horton combined for a 4:15.87 in the girls 4x400, good enough for a podium finish, as well.

Sophomore Jordie Brooks also had a silver medal and had a school record in the Long Jump competition with an 18’1.50” jump.

Also making the trip to State for Newcastle were: Riley Hart, Hadlee Man, Chesney McLean, and Brylee Scott.
