Children’s Health Foundation receives gift from OEC Foundation

Children’s Health Foundation announces a $2,500 gift from the Oklahoma Electric Cooperative Foundation in support of the Sooner SUCCESS Agape Corner Respite and Sibshop in Norman.

Sooner SUCCESS supports children and youth with disabilities and their families through referrals, programs, and services.

Children’s Health Foundation Interim Executive Director Jeremiah Lane said, “We are grateful to partner with the OEC Foundation’s Operation Round Up program. With the support of OEC, children with disabilities and their siblings in the Norman area will enjoy a day of fun in a supportive environment and their parents will get a much needed break. We are incredibly grateful for this gift.”

The grant will provide two sessions at Rock the Spectrum in Norman for children with disabilities and their siblings to play and have fun together. The sessions will also serve as a break for parents and caregivers.

Many parents of children with disabilities have never taken a break to run errands or rest without worrying about their children. Parents and caregivers rarely, if ever, have time for self-care or their relationships. Typical siblings often take on parental roles, and research suggests that they are at a high risk of experiencing mental and physical health challenges that can significantly affect their functioning, productivity, and quality of life.

Agape Corner Respite & Sibshop (ACRS) is a free program that provides fun and support for children with disabilities and their siblings, and a break for caregivers raising children (up to age 18) with special healthcare needs. Funding from the OEC Foundation will allow ACRS to provide two special sessions at the We Rock the Spectrum gym in Norman.

This 10,000-square-foot facility will provide children with a large, open, and safe environment to play and engage socially in a new, exciting, and stimulating space. It offers a variety of sensoryfriendly activities and specially designed play equipment that will enrich the children’s experience. The facility also includes a classroom space for sibling-focused activities and discussions.
