McClain County mirrors national voting results picking Trump, Biden

Only 19% of eligible voters take part

In a quick look at the Presidential Primary Election vote Tuesday, March 5, only 19% of McClain County’s eligible voters took part.

McClain County has a total of 28,004 registered voters, according to the McClain County Election Board. Of those, 5,235 voted for either Republican, Democrat or Libertarian.

Donald J. Trump had 3,905 total votes for 86.01% on the Republican ticket. Nikki Haley came in second with 544 votes, or 11.98%.

Joseph R. Biden, Jr. had 441 total votes on the Democrat ticket for 64.19% of the vote. Dean Phillips came in second in McClain County with 11.64% and Marianne Williamson had 69 votes for 10.04%.

Chase Oliver had 5 votes, or 62.50% of the vote in Libertarian results. Coming in second was Jacob Hornberger with 3 votes, or 37.50%.

Total potential voters in Mc-Clain County broken down by political affiliation is the following: Republican, 18,188; Democrat, 5,180; Independent, 4,397 (they were able to vote in the Democrat primary, but not the Republican primary); and Libertarian, 239.
