Carel Vernon Porter

Carel Vernon Porter, 76, of Newcastle, OK, entered heaven on Jan. 31, 2018.  Carel was born May 2, 1941, in Marble, AR, and was the oldest of six children.  While in the army, Carel met his wife of 51 years, Earleene.  Together, they raised three children –  Jeff, Jana, and Jill.  Carel retired from the Oklahoma Air National Guard, as well as managing his own mowing and brush-hogging business until he was 75. Carel loved traveling with his wife across the country and world.  When they weren’t traveling, he always made sure to fit in a nap in the car while his wife was shopping, or in his recliner with an old Western show as  background noise.  But Carel’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially Sunday lunches with his kids and grandkids at his home.  He never missed an activity that his children or grandchildren participated in; he was their biggest fan.  He enjoyed hunting, archery, fishing, and early morning coffee with his friends.  Carel’s infectious laugh and loving heart will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.  He was a good and kind man.  Carel was preceded in death by his parents, Maynard & Winnie Porter; and sister, Jeanie Porter.  Survivor’s include his wife, Earleene Porter, of their home in Newcastle; son, Jeff Porter, of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Jana Tacl & husband Eric, of Blanchard; and Jill Moore & husband Scott of Tuttle; brothers, Jerry Porter, of Springdale, AR; and Mike Porter, of Marble, AR; sisters, Barbara Crumley, of Hindsville, AR’ and Wanda Warren, of Muskogee, OK; and his five grandchildren, Cambrye, Cassidy, and Carsen Moore; Blaze and Brynlee Tacl. Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 4, 1-8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home, 500 SW 104th.  Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 5, 2 p.m. at Newcastle Christian Church, 2200 N. Main.  Interment followed at Resthaven Memory Gardens
