Another year has come and gone. It is hard to believe that 2017 is over, and that 2018 is here. It truly is amazing how quickly time flies. Everyone loves a fresh start though. There is something about new beginnings, and each new year provides opportunities to grow, start over, look at things with a fresh eye, get a new vision, etc. What will you do with a new year? With 2017 gone and 2018 here, here are a few encouragements to help make the most out of this year:
First and foremost, commit to grow closer to God. Make it a priority to consistently attend and get involved in a strong Bible-believing, Bible-preaching church. Read your Bible a little every day and make prayer a priority. You will never regret drawing closer to the Lord.
Second, take care of your body, but set attainable goals. In 2018, seek to eat a little healthier and exercise a little more. It is amazing how much better your perspective on life gets when you feel good physically. Seek to take care of the body God has given you.
Third, don’t settle for status quo in anything; strive for excellence. Think about important relationships in your life and ask, “How can I be a better spouse, parent, grandparent, friend, boss, co-worker, etc?” Think about school or work and ask, “How can I be a better student or employee?” Do not settle for just getting by in anything that you do. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as if you are working for God and not man.
Finally, seek to develop and exercise an ‘others first’ lifestyle. We live in a ridiculously selfish world. Most people you will encounter each day live with an unbelievable sense of entitlement. This world needs good examples of humble servants who will put others above themselves. The ultimate example is Jesus Christ. The King of all kings came in the most humble of all ways and served mankind. Mark 10:45 says this, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many.” If Jesus, the only one who deserved to be served, came and served others, how much more should we serve?
2018 is time for a fresh start. Let us all make the most of new beginnings and truly impact the world around us. Start right and start today. See you next week!
