Inmate escapes from van – Skipper Eugene Rowland sought by authorities

A prisoner being transported back to the McClain County jail has escaped from a transport van, driven by Bill Tyler.

McClain County Sheriff Detective David Tompkins said Skipper Eugene Rowland, 34 of Warner, apparently kicked off his shackles and kicked open the door of the van somewhere near Okmulgee.

Rowland  is 5’9” tall and weighs 150 pounds. He was wearing an orange jump suit. Officers believe he is now in his underwear and barefoot in very rough terrain.

Law enforcement officials from Okmulgee County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and other agencies in that area are searching for the inmate.

Also on the scene are McClain County Deputies Chris Grace and David Childress with the county’s drug dog.

Tompkins reported just after 4 p.m. Tuesday a helicopter was en route to the area.
